Job summary

Gusto is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager for Builder Enablement to lead a team responsible for designing Workbench and AI tooling that empowers all builders to ship high-quality products.

You will partner with Design and Product leadership, grow senior engineers, and guide the adoption of AI ecosystems across frontend platforms, while aligning with Gusto's values and strategic goals.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years leading teams.
• Experience with frontend platforms, design systems, or shared infrastructure.
• Hands-on fluency with AI developer tooling (MCP servers, agent skills, evals).
• Strong product sense and ability to partner with Design and Product.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and broad stakeholder surface area.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a team of senior engineers at the frontier of design systems and AI-assisted development.
• Set strategy with Design and Product leads for AI tooling, design system, and builder support.
• Guide the team's use of AI in workflows, run weekly experiments, write evals.
• Conduct 1:1s, coaching, and career development for direct reports.
• Collaborate with other engineering leaders to align tooling and platform direction.
• Represent Builder Enablement to leadership and the community.
• Own the team's technical strategy for AI ecosystems and publishing tooling.
