Job summary

General Motors Company is seeking a Senior AI Data Engineer for the GPSC Insights Engineering team in Austin, TX. You will design, build, and optimize data assets and AI data products to support BI, advanced analytics, ML, and generative AI use cases across global purchasing supply chain.

You will own end-to-end solutions, ensuring data used for training, evaluation, retrieval, inference, and decisioning is trusted, scalable, and secure.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering, software engineering, platform engineering, or related discipline with production delivery of scalable data solutions.
• Strong proficiency in Python and SQL; Scala or another production language a plus.
• Experience with distributed data processing such as Apache Spark and container orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Proficiency with streaming and event-driven data solutions using Kafka; operating in Kubernetes-based environments.
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP also considered).
• Knowledge of data quality, governance, metadata, lineage, privacy, and responsible use of sensitive data in AI systems.
• Experience with AI application development frameworks and services (e.g., LangChain, Vertex AI).
• Working knowledge of RAG/vector search, FastAPI/React app patterns, LLM evaluation, and agent orchestration.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills with ability to influence across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture, design, development, and production delivery of scalable data and AI engineering solutions across batch, streaming, and near-real-time workloads.
• Assemble and transform large structured, semi-structured, and unstructured datasets for model training, validation, evaluation, and inference.
• Develop robust source-system integrations from files, databases, APIs, and external suppliers.
• Build data pipelines and reusable data products with data contracts, lineage, and observability.
• Develop and operationalize feature, embedding, and vector-retrieval pipelines for ML/AI apps.
• Establish MLOps/LLMOps patterns including versioning, CI/CD, monitoring, and retraining triggers.
• Lead architecture discussions and evaluate technology tradeoffs; drive delivery with cross-team collaboration.
• Mentor peers, raise engineering standards, and drive secure, scalable data platforms across GPSC.
