Job summary

General Motors seeks a hands-on Senior Data Engineer to build analytics-ready data products from telemetry data, enabling AI/ML use across the enterprise. You will create trusted datasets, metrics, and governed data services to replace duplicated logic with reusable solutions.

You will partner with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver measurable outcomes, improve adoption, and ensure compliant, scalable data platforms in a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a technical field.
• 5+ years of data engineering or related experience.
• Experience enabling AI/ML via feature engineering and model-ready data.
• Experience building GenAI, retrieval-augmented generation, or self-service data tools.
• Experience with cloud data services (Azure/AWS/GCP).
• Experience with workflow orchestration, CI/CD, IaC, testing, and data observability.
• Strong data pipelines, modeling, integration, and production support.
• Proficiency in Python or Scala, advanced SQL, and Unix/Linux.
• Hands-on with Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, and distributed processing.
• Experience with NoSQL data stores; Azure/AWS/GCP design exposure.
• Understand batch vs streaming architectures, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, distributed systems.
• Knowledge of data governance, privacy, security, data quality, responsible AI.
• Ability to work independently and communicate complex topics.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and productionize secure, scalable data pipelines in Azure Databricks.
• Transform data from multiple sources into analytics-ready datasets.
• Develop ETL/ELT workflows using Spark, Delta Lake, and medallion architecture.
• Enable self-service analytics and GenAI via governed data products and APIs.
• Prepare feature-ready and model-ready datasets for AI workflows.
• Impose data quality, lineage, monitoring, access controls, and privacy practices.
• Improve engineering processes, automation, and platform performance.
• Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and stakeholders to drive outcomes.
• Troubleshoot production issues and maintain data platform reliability.
• Contribute to standards, frameworks, and technical documentation.
• Mentor engineers and influence technical direction.
