Job summary

Nordstrom, Inc is seeking a Senior Engineer to lead the AI Agentic Solutions team in Seattle. You will design and build end-to-end agentic systems across orchestration, tool-use pipelines, and enterprise integrations, balancing business goals with technical trade-offs.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive architectural decisions, and ensure production readiness with strong observability, security, and cost discipline.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with scalable distributed systems.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, foundation model APIs, prompt engineering, and embedding-based search.
• Experience designing, building, and operating AI agents or agentic workflows in production.
• Strong ability to structure context for agents within token, latency, and cost constraints.
• Experience designing evaluation frameworks and safety guardrails for LLM-based systems.

Responsibilities

• Partner with stakeholders to define agentic solutions with measurable success criteria.
• Design and build end-to-end agentic solutions across orchestration and tool-use pipelines.
• Own solution design for agentic work with upstream/downstream integration.
• Develop evaluations and guardrails for safety, reliability, and accuracy.
• Architect memory and state management for agents across sessions and workflows.
• Apply AI fluency to integrate LLMs, embeddings, vector stores, and agentive frameworks into production services.
• Lead design and code reviews, providing actionable feedback and enforcing quality standards.
• Define metrics, observability, and accountability for performance, cost, and security.
