Job summary

Nordstrom is seeking an Engineer 2 to contribute to the AI Agentic Solutions team, owning agentic components and collaborating with senior engineers to build production workflows. You will engage in context engineering, evaluations, and guardrails, with a focus on safe and reliable agent-based systems.

Required are 2+ years of software engineering, hands-on AI fluency with LLMs, and experience with agentic workflows, plus cloud-native development on AWS or GCP.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• AI Fluency — Hands-on with LLMs or foundation model APIs.
• Experience building or contributing to AI agents or agentic workflows.
• Understanding of context for agents within token, latency, cost constraints.
• CS fundamentals and at least one production-grade tech stack on AWS and/or GCP.
• Familiarity with LangGraph, CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, Claude Agent SDK, or OpenAI Assistants API.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and build agentic components with minimal supervision, including tool-use integrations and orchestration.
• Contribute to context engineering work, determining what an agent sees within token, latency, and cost constraints.
• Integrate LLM APIs, embedding models, vector stores, and agentic frameworks into production services.
• Develop evaluations and guardrails with offline benchmarks and online telemetry to ensure safety and reliability.
• Participate in on-call rotations, debugging, profiling, and root-cause analysis.
• Lead work processes and design reviews, guiding teammates on trade-offs.
