Job summary

EY is seeking a senior AI/ML engineer to build agents and robust execution loops spanning enterprise integrations and production systems. You will balance deterministic workflows with autonomy, ensuring safety and controllability in complex enterprise environments.

The Challenger Core team develops reusable tools, risk and quality guardrails, and passes work to the business with measurable value. Travel up to 50% and hybrid office presence are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study.
• 9-12+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong track record in software or applied machine-learning engineering with production systems.
• Hands‑on experience shipping large‑language‑model apps, agents, or complex model‑driven workflows.
• Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, or similar production languages.
• Experience with model APIs, structured outputs, retrieval, tool use, and evaluation of variable behavior.
• Experience with asynchronous work, state, concurrency, retries, and recovery.
• Experience implementing access boundaries and scoped authority for apps.
• Proven ability to improve live systems via traces, metrics, logs, and incident analysis.

Responsibilities

• Choose the right execution model and design agent architectures with deterministic steps when justified.
• Build dependable tools with clear contracts, validated outcomes, and narrow authorization.
• Engineer agent behavior across planning, routing, delegation, stopping, retry, and handoffs.
• Create durable context by combining instructions, user state, retrieval, memory, and environment feedback.
• Bound agent authority with scoped identities, credentials, budgets, and emergency containment.
• Evaluate complete trajectories with tests for verified task success, tool use, and recovery.
• Operate long-running execution using durable state, checkpointing, and graceful degradation.
• Make behavior observable through end-to-end traces and replay for failure analysis.
• Protect user control with intervention points for inspection, interruption, and resuming work.
• Build shared capability by partnering across product, platform, security, and evaluation teams.
