Job summary

The City of New York's Law Department, Labor & Employee Relations unit, provides proactive legal counsel to Human Resources and other business units on progressive discipline and represents NYCHA in disciplinary due process proceedings.

The Agency Attorney position involves investigating disciplinary matters, interviewing witnesses, drafting charges, and representing the Authority in hearings and appeals, with confidentiality required for NYCHA proceedings.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
• One year of satisfactory United States legal experience after bar admission or six months as an Agency Attorney Interne.
• Incumbents must remain a member of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration.

Responsibilities

• Investigate potential employee disciplinary matters and draft disciplinary charges.
• Interview witnesses and gather documents for trials.
• Represent the Authority in disciplinary proceedings, settlement conferences, or disability hearings.
• Research and draft memoranda for internal use.
• Represent the Authority in appeals before the NYC Civil Service Commission.
• Provide legal analysis, advice and counsel to Human Resources and other departments.
• Represent the Authority before administrative agencies or in state or federal court.
