Job summary

ALTEN Technology USA is seeking a Senior Design Engineer in Mukilteo, WA to lead mechanical systems design for aerospace, defense, and high‑tech products. You will develop hardware from concept through production readiness, collaborating across engineering teams and with manufacturing to ensure quality and qualification.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical design, GD&T, SolidWorks, and experience in aerospace or highly engineered systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• 6+ years designing aerospace, defense, or highly engineered products.
• Experience developing hardware through testing and qualification.
• Strong background in mechanical design, drawings, and best practices.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and GD&T.
• Experience using CAD/CAE tools for development and analyses.
• Understand mechanics, materials, stress analysis, and engineering fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Leading design and development of mechanical systems, hardware, and mechanisms from concept to production readiness.
• Creating innovative solutions meeting requirements and environmental constraints.
• Performing calculations, trade studies, tolerance analyses, and design evaluations.
• Supporting multiple programs while maintaining schedules and quality.
• Reviewing and validating analyses, calculations, and outputs for accuracy.
• Generating design packages with BOMs, drawings, and release docs.
• Collaborating with manufacturing, quality, systems, and test teams to transition designs to production.
• Providing tech support for prototypes and development testing.
• Mentoring junior engineers and advancing engineering practices.
• Applying engineering judgment to solve high‑complexity challenges in aerospace/defense.
