Job summary

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (DS) is seeking an Aerodynamics Systems Engineer 4 to provide technical solutions to complex aerodynamics problems for weapon systems in Northridge, CA. This full-time, on-site role requires a DoW Secret clearance.

You will collaborate with systems engineering, guidance and control, test, and manufacturing teams to ensure aerodynamic performance and verification across the flight envelope. The role focuses on missile aerodynamics, stability, and controllability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience, or MS with 6 years, or PhD with 4 years.
• Experience using Ansys Fluent, STAR-CCM+, or CFD++.
• Strong aerodynamic design experience, including control surface sizing and prediction of 6 component aerodynamic coefficients.
• Experience developing stability and control derivatives, developing test matrices for CFD and wind tunnel testing, conducting CFD analyses and wind tunnel tests, and critically evaluating test and analytic results.
• Experience developing 6DOF aerodynamic models and verifying aerodynamic models in 6DOF nonlinear simulations.
• Experience with MATLAB and Simulink.
• Current US Government DoW Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines in supersonic/hypersonic airframe design and analysis.
• Design CFD and Wind Tunnel test matrix. Conduct CFD and Wind Tunnel tests and evaluate test results.
• Conduct design reviews of aero models and compare them to validated models or empirically derived data.
