Job summary

Howard University’s Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts Center for Student Success seeks a Senior Advising Services Coordinator to lead the advising team and provide comprehensive academic advising, counseling, and admissions support to continuing and prospective students, including those facing difficult circumstances.

You will collaborate with administrators, faculty, and the Registrar to ensure proper placement, degree progress, and timely graduation while maintaining confidential

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in advising.
• At least five years in academic advising in higher education.
• Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
• Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director with admission processing for the College.
• Advise students individually or in groups on core/department requirements.
• Maintain electronic and hardcopy schemes for each department.
• Liaise between College and Registrar on special grade reports and enrollment issues.
• Attend meetings related to WorkDay, BisonHub, or other enrollment/advising platforms.
• Review placement tests and certifications to ensure proper placement.
• Assist students with long-term goals and career plans.
• Help students meet graduation requirements on time.
• Keep track of registration deadlines and assist with timely registration.
• Advise special populations (new/transfer/undeclared).
• Maintain advising records and confidentiality.
• Utilize HU information systems to support advising.
• Serve on college/department advisory committees.
• Attend college fairs to meet potential students.
• Manage the Center for Student Success email account.
• Perform related duties to meet Academic Advising goals.
