Job summary

West Virginia University’s Office of Dean's Administration in the Statler College seeks a Senior Academic Advisor to support undergraduate students, guiding them through degree planning, major selection, and career pathways. Qualifications

• Requires a master's degree, preferably in a STEM discipline or a bachelor's degree preferably in a STEM discipline and equivalent related experience.
• A minimum of two (2) years of experience in each of the following: Advising or counseling, Academic or student support services, Student information systems, Program Planning/Management.
• Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
• All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.

Responsibilities

• Plans, implements and coordinates programming to improve retention and graduation.
• Develops First Year Seminar curriculum related to advising and student success.
• Provides support to recruiting and academic events, including evenings/weekends.
• Provides academic counsel to help students select and complete degrees.
• Coordinates with career services and central student services for major selection and career pathways.
• Advises students who are probationary or reinstated after suspension.
• Develops and maintains curriculum for probation-related academy.
• Prepares four- to five-year academic plans and tracks persistence.
• Uses advising approaches to support degree completion and persistence.
• Interprets WVU catalogs and policies for degree progression and major changes.
• Uses Banner/SSC Campus to monitor student history and in-progress work.
• Outreach to at-risk students and referrals to support services.
• Guides students through appeals for academic/financial aid suspensions with success plans.
• Assists students with course equivalencies and transient approvals.
• Supports high school-to-college transitions via convocations and orientation.
• Assesses concerns and refers to university units when needed.
• Serves on college/university task forces impacting student success.
• Assists Program Director with enrollment data collection/analysis.
• Collaborates with admissions staff to improve yield.
