Job summary

Caterpillar, based in Irving, TX, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build software for robotic and safety-critical machines. You will design, test, and release software, validate it in real-world settings, and help push AI-enabled capabilities while ensuring safe operation next to heavy equipment.

You will mentor teammates, collaborate on build and release pipelines, and help shape embedded system architecture for real-time and web environments.

Qualifications

• Degree required in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
• 10+ years’ experience in platform-level development or interfacing with internal development groups.
• Experience with robotics planning or ADAS product development in heavy machinery or automotive industries is a plus.
• Experience with AI, perception, autonomy, or anomaly detection is beneficial.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities; ability to mentor teammates.
• Architecting major products and designing embedded, real-time, database, OS, and web solutions.
• Understanding market trends and go-to-market strategy; able to explain strategy to others.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and release software for robotic, automated, and safety-critical machines; watch it run in the real world.
• Prove it works via test reviews, witness tests, and certifications.
• Build and tune build, integration, and release pipelines for scalable deployments.
• Develop operator and machine safety systems to protect people and equipment.
• Bring AI and new technology into software to increase capability.
• Solve puzzles when new software integrates with existing machines and infrastructure.
• Share knowledge, review code, and help engineers level up.
