Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Lead Robotics Engineer to join the Irving, TX team. You will build and deploy autonomy software across perception, planning, control, and learning, taking ideas from prototype through production on real hardware.

This role requires deep expertise across the autonomy stack and hands-on experience with field robots on customer sites. The ideal candidate has 8+ years in robotics, strong C++/Python production skills, and experience with ROS or similar systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of related engineering experience
• Strong robotics generalist across the autonomy stack
• Expertise in AI, motion planning, perception, controls, or SLAM
• C++ and Python, production-quality
• ROS (or similar) in real robotics systems
• Full-lifecycle product experience — from idea to production
• Pragmatic, first-principles engineer who owns components end-to-end
• Willingness to work on site with real machines on customer sites
• Experience with learning-based control or perception and ML infrastructure

Responsibilities

• Participate in test review, analysis, witnessing and certification of robotics software
• Design, build, and ship autonomy components across perception, planning, control and learning
• Take work from prototype to production on real hardware
• Specialize deeply while contributing across the stack
• Work in small pods staffed from capability benches
