Responsibilities
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Senior Accounts Payable Manager in New York, NY. Summary: We are conducting a confidential search on behalf of a well-established nonprofit organization that serves diverse communities with integrity and purpose. This mission-driven organization is seeking a Senior Accounts Payable Specialist to lead and enhance their AP function, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead full-cycle AP process: invoice intake, coding, validation, approval workflows, and payment processing
- Manage weekly disbursements, reimbursements, stipends, and payroll check processing
- Maintain accurate vendor records, including 1099 subcontractors and inter-entity allocation setups
- Support issue resolution and vendor inquiries with professionalism and timeliness
- Oversee vendor onboarding and ensure contract and tax compliance
- Train and supervise junior AP staff
- Assist in redesigning workflows, standard operating procedures, and team performance metrics
- Uphold internal controls and ensure compliance with IRS, GAAP, and grantor (federal/foundation) guidelines
- Maintain alignment of AP practices with organizational policies and regulatory requirements
- Contribute to month-end and year-end close, focusing on AP accruals and reconciliation
- Partner with Staff Accountants to tie AP subledger activity to general ledger
- Strengthen internal controls for AP accuracy and approval compliance
- Lead process improvement and automation efforts to increase efficiency and accuracy
- Oversee digital recordkeeping through AP systems and shared portals
- Maintain proper documentation standards and naming conventions
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive accounts payable experience, including supervisory or lead-level responsibilities
- Experience with cloud-based accounting systems (e.g., Sage Intacct) and AP automation tools
- Knowledge of 1099 reporting, grant compliance, and IRS regulations
- Strong communication and organizational skills, with a collaborative and solutions-oriented mindset
- Nonprofit or fund accounting experience strongly preferred
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
