Job summary

County of Hawai‘i seeks an experienced accounting professional to oversee and maintain a major section of the department's accounting system. Responsibilities include posting, reconciling, and reporting on fiscal data, plus supervising staff and payroll processes in Hawai‘i County.

Two vacancies exist: a permanent full-time in the Vehicle Registration & Licensing Division in Hilo and a temporary full-time not-to-exceed 01/31/2027 in the Accounts Division in Hilo.

Qualifications

• High school diploma plus three years of account recordkeeping with payables/payroll and fiscal reporting.
• Experience in accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and preparation of fiscal reports.
• Education substitution allows an Associate degree for two years of the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Plan, review, and post financial transactions; maintain and reconcile accounts.
• Set up and supervise accounting files; ensure accuracy of journals and ledgers.
• Prepare reports and financial/statistical data for budgets and analyses.
• Oversee payroll processing, timekeeping, and related compliance.
• Assist grant management, monitor expenditures, and prepare related reports.
