Job summary

Athena-Actuarial-Consulting is seeking an Accounting & Finance Manager in Minneapolis to own day-to-day accounting and finance functions, lead month-end close, and coordinate budgeting, forecasting, and analysis. You will work closely with leadership to build scalable processes and provide timely, accurate financial information for growth.

The role requires hands-on experience with GAAP, GL, payroll, and cash management, plus strong Excel and communication skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience including month-end close
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual-basis accounting
• Experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, payables, receivables, and payroll
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with accounting systems
• Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to manage recurring tasks independently
• Proven ownership of work from start to finish and issue resolution
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities; proactive status updates
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Responsibilities

• Own and execute the monthly close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
• Maintain accurate books per accrual accounting standards
• Manage AP/AR, client invoicing, and collections
• Coordinate payroll processing and related accounting
• Monitor cash balances and forecast short-term cash flow
• Prepare timely financial statements and management reports
• Draft annual budgets and reforecasts; analyze results and trends
• Report on company and project-level financial performance
• Coordinate with external tax advisors, auditors, and banking partners
• Maintain documentation, processes, controls, and procedures
• Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and systems
• Communicate priorities, deadlines, risks, and insights to leadership
• Uphold integrity and align with Athena’s mission and values
