Job summary

Athena Actuarial Consulting is seeking an Accounting & Finance Manager to own and operate Athena’s day-to-day accounting and finance functions. You will drive month-end close, AP/AR, payroll coordination, cash management, and reconciliations while supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to enable growth.

You will work closely with leadership to build scalable financial processes, ensure accurate reporting, and collaborate with external tax and accounting partners.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Strong GAAP and accrual accounting knowledge
• Experience with general ledger, reconciliations, AP, AR, payroll
• Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting/financial systems
• Excellent organizational and project management skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close processes, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
• Maintain accurate books and records per accrual accounting principles
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and collections
• Coordinate payroll processing and related accounting
• Monitor cash balances and short-term cash flow forecasts
• Prepare timely financial statements and management reporting
• Assist with budgets and reforecasts, and analyze financial results
• Coordinate with external tax advisors, auditors, and banking partners
• Maintain documentation, processes, and internal controls
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and systems
• Communicate priorities, deadlines, and insights to leadership
• Uphold integrity aligned with Athena’s mission
