Senior Accountant - Statutory

Our client, a growing insurance organization, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their accounting and finance team. This role will be responsible for supporting the company’s financial reporting processes, month-end close, reconciliations, and preparation of financial statements while ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards and insurance industry requirements.

Job Details
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reporting packages.
  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
  • Assist with preparation of financial reporting schedules and supporting documentation for management and external stakeholders.
  • Research and apply GAAP and relevant accounting guidance to financial reporting activities.
  • Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts and investigate unusual or significant variances.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Assist with regulatory and insurance-related financial reporting requirements.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to obtain and validate financial information.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies.
  • Support special projects, process improvements, and other accounting initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated industry.
  • Strong experience with financial reporting and month-end close.
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience with account reconciliations, journal entries, variance analysis, and audit support.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting/ERP systems.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight reporting deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Insurance industry accounting experience.
  • Experience with statutory accounting (STAT) and/or insurance regulatory reporting.
  • CPA or CPA-track candidate.
  • Experience with financial reporting software or large-scale ERP systems.
