Job summary

Aston Carter is seeking a Sr. Accountant to manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of companies, including nonprofit entities, in Minneapolis, MN. The role requires strong GL, AP/AR, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and month-end close in a GAAP framework.

Proficiency with MRI Commercial Real Estate and QuickBooks Online, plus advanced Excel, is expected. This is a contract-to-hire onsite position with competitive hourly pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
• 5+ years of general ledger accounting experience.
• Strong accounts payable and accounts receivable experience.
• Proficiency in preparing and posting journal entries, including accruals and adjustments.
• Experience with bank statement reconciliation and GL reconciliation.
• Experience leading month-end close and financial reporting under GAAP.
• Advanced GAAP knowledge and accounting procedures.
• Experience preparing/interpreting financial statements per GAAP.
• Proficiency with ERP/accounting software and adapting to new systems.
• Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables.

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of companies (for-profit and non-profit).
• Process accounts payable: review, code, enter invoices, and prepare payments.
• Handle accounts receivable: billing, recording payments, monitor balances.
• Prepare and post journal entries, including recurring, adjusting, and correcting entries.
• Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules per policy.
• Perform bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Complete GL reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
• Lead or support month-end close: accruals, reconciliations, schedules.
• Prepare monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Apply GAAP knowledge to maintain compliance and improve processes.
• Utilize MRI and QuickBooks Online to manage financial data.
• Use advanced Excel to analyze data and support reporting.
• Collaborate with team and leadership with discretion on confidential information.
• Support continuous improvement of accounting processes in a small team.
