Job summary

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is seeking a Senior Accountant to support accounting operations, payroll and benefits accounting, grant and restricted-fund accounting, and month-end closing. The role participates in dashboard development and financial reporting on the Finance Team.

The Senior Accountant will prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and assist with audits, ensuring compliance and accurate financial information for grants and capital projects.

Qualifications

• Three years of progressively responsible accounting experience including reconciliations, journal entries, schedules, and audit support.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; equivalent education and experience considered.
• Working knowledge of financial statements, AP/AR, payroll, grant accounting, restricted funds, reconciliations, and month-end closings; nonprofit experience preferred.
• Ability to interpret grant agreements, budgets, reporting requirements, and supporting documentation with established accounting/compliance requirements.
• Strong Excel skills with lookups, pivots, and large data analysis; proficient with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records by reviewing coding, reconciling, and recording transactions by department, project, and funding source.
• Support monthly and year-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Perform payroll and benefits accounting, including payroll liability reconciliations and grant-funded allocations.
• Support grant, restricted-fund, and capital-project accounting, including tracking eligible costs and revenue recognition.
• Prepare and maintain audit and compliance schedules and supporting documentation for donations and contributions.
• Produce recurring financial and operational reports covering payroll, grants, receivables, payables, cash, and balances; highlight aging items and variances.
• Assist in Finance dashboards and reporting tools (Power BI and Excel-based) for financial reporting and decision support.
• Reconcile dashboards/reports to NetSuite and other source systems; investigate data quality and mapping differences.
• Maintain accounting procedures, close checklists, and documentation standards; identify opportunities to reduce manual work and improve controls.
• Provide cross-training and backup support for accounting, reporting, and payroll priorities.
