Job summary

Altamonte Springs seeks a Senior Accountant to ensure accurate financial resource management for the City, coordinating accounting, budgeting and administration to support informed decisions and accountability.

The role drives the annual budget, oversees capital improvement programs city-wide, handles journal entries, bank reconciliations and quarterly/annual reporting while maintaining internal controls and procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 3+ years’ accounting experience.
• 1+ year of accounting experience in a government agency or non-profit.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing, preparing and administering the annual budget with accounting staff.
• Oversee capital improvement program and coordinate with departments, vendors and outside agencies on capital projects.
• Manage project codes city-wide in collaboration with department personnel.
• Process requisitions and payments for capital expenditures and support budget funding decisions.
• Oversee annual balance sheet, revenue and expenditure account audits.
• Draft and revise SOPs for each division and monitor policy review compliance.
• Prepare journal entries from all sources including budget transfers.
• Assist with work papers, schedules, journals and reports for the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
• Oversee bank reconciliations: master accounts, payroll, pooled cash, and workers' comp.
• Oversee inventory and annual audit of fixed assets and capital expenditures.
• Assist with bi-weekly city payroll and pension plan processing.
• Train staff to provide accounting backup and assist Comptroller as needed.
• Maintain internal controls documentation and respond to emergencies as needed.
