Job summary

City of Amberline seeks a Staff Accountant to keep the general ledger accurate for a $184 million city budget and assist in producing the annual financial report. You will post journal entries, reconcile accounts, track grants, and prepare schedules for the external auditors as part of a small, dedicated team.

Two years of accounting experience and a bachelor’s degree are required, with governmental accounting preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Two years of accounting experience; governmental or fund accounting preferred.
• Strong spreadsheet skills and experience with an enterprise accounting system.
• CPA or CGFO credential is a plus and earns the top of the range.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries and month-end closing entries for governmental and utility funds.
• Reconcile bank, investment, and sub-ledger accounts monthly and resolve differences.
• Track grant revenue and expenses, prepare reimbursement requests, and keep grant files audit-ready.
• Maintain the capital asset ledger, including additions, disposals, and depreciation.
• Prepare audit schedules and notes for the annual financial report and respond to auditor requests.
• Help departments read their budget reports and research variances during budget season.
