Job summary

Ventura County Community College District is seeking a Senior Accountant for district-wide financial operations, reporting to the Supervisor of Accounting. The role focuses on maintaining fiscal records, monitoring internal controls, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, GAAP and GASB.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration with significant coursework in accounting.
• Four (4) years of professional accounting, financial analyses, or auditing experience with general ledger analyses and financial statement preparation.
• A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex and technical account analyses.
• Maintain account detail, either individually or through the work of others.
• Prepare complex and technical journal entries to record or correct transactions.
• Maintain the District's Chart of Accounts and ensure proper classification of financial transactions; recommend procedural changes.
• Prepare and interpret interim and annual financial statements and reports including the CAFR and MD&A.
• Gather, review, and analyze data for compliance with statutes, regulations, and internal controls.
• Coordinate monthly and fiscal year-end schedules and deadlines for accounting activity.
• Ensure financial reports reflect the District's financial position monthly and at year-end.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and GASB; recommend procedural changes.
• Perform operational or financial audits to analyze activity and ensure internal controls.
• Coordinate preparation of the annual external financial and compliance audit.
• Develop procedures and train staff in compliance and analysis techniques.
• Assist in testing and implementation of financial systems or upgrades.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and diverse stakeholders; demonstrate equity-mindedness.

Education

Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration with significant accounting coursework

Four (4) years of professional accounting, financial analysis, or auditing experience

CPA license desirable
