Job summary

Port of New Orleans seeks an Accountant 3 to support financial operations through advanced accounting analysis, reporting, and compliance. You will prepare complex financial statements, reconcile accounts, ensure policy adherence, and advise on accounting practices.

The role includes managing the Work Order Management system, fixed assets, and GL analysis, with regular interaction with the Legal team and external auditors. A strong background in GAAP, GASB, and journal entries is required.

Responsibilities

• Manage Board’s Work Order Management system including ~350 work orders across five categories totaling ~$83M; review budget, expenditures, and GL classifications; post journal entries and adjust as needed.
• Manage Fixed Asset records: capitalization, depreciation schedules, asset disposals, and related journal entries; generate fixed asset reports.
• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and GASB; analyze variances and reconcile ledgers.
• Reconcile GL accounts for Prepaid Expense, Accruals, Bad Debt Reserves and other liabilities; review weekly AP invoices for proper GLA coding and posting.
• Train Accountant 2 on AP/GL procedures, journal entries, reconciliations, and Workman’s Compensation schedules.
• Support annual financial statement audits: prepare work papers, compile documentation, and assist auditors as needed.
• Contribute to development of new accounting techniques and perform additional duties as assigned.
