Job summary

El Paso Community College seeks a Senior Accountant to assist the Associate Comptroller in managing the District’s accounting processes and financial reporting on campus. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.

The role involves financial analysis, month-end and year-end closings, and ensuring GAAP compliance across grants and contracts. You will collaborate with the Physical Plant department to capitalize projects and help external auditors with work papers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience; transcript must be submitted.
• Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, fund accounting, budgeting, and GAAP.
• Knowledge of community college policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Knowledge of computerized financial information systems and ERP software.
• Proficiency in Excel to quantify and illustrate financial reports.
• Knowledge of payroll-related reports and processes.
• Ability to maintain and reconcile accounting and financial records.
• Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data and prepare reports.
• Ability to analyze budget expenditures for compliance with funding rules.
• Ability to set priorities and meet critical deadlines.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to lead and train staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Associate Comptroller in managing the District’s accounts, billings, and agency reporting.
• Perform financial analysis to ensure accurate recordkeeping and reporting.
• Assist in month-end and year-end closings and maintain the chart of accounts.
• Prepare technical correspondence and assist external auditors as needed.
• Support ERP process automation and capitalization of capital projects with Physical Plant.
• Provide data for audits and coordinate with budget heads on accounting needs.
