Job summary

Jobot is hiring a Senior Accountant-Construction in San Jose, CA. The role focuses on payroll accounting, general ledger reconciliations, labor cost accounting, and financial reporting, acting as a bridge between Accounting and Payroll to ensure accurate payroll-related financial activity.

The Senior Staff Accountant collaborates with Accounting, Payroll, HR, and Operations to improve processes, strengthen controls, and support month-end close and broad accounting initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience including general ledger reconciliations and financial reporting.
• Public accounting or CPA firm experience preferred.
• Construction accounting and labor cost accounting experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Payroll Accounting and General Ledger.
• Prepare and reconcile payroll related GL accounts, including wages, payroll taxes, benefits, deductions, union contributions, and payroll liabilities.
• Review labor cost allocations and reconcile payroll expenses to job cost records.
• Review and strengthen internal controls related to payroll accounting.
• Evaluate payroll accounting processes and recommend improvements to accuracy, efficiency, and reporting.
• Serve as an accounting liaison between Payroll and Accounting.

Job Details

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for payroll accounting, general ledger reconciliations, labor cost accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls. This position serves as a key connection between Accounting and Payroll, ensuring payroll related financial activity is accurately recorded, reconciled, and reported. The role works closely with Accounting, Payroll, Human Resources, and Operations to identify discrepancies, improve processes, strengthen financial controls, and support accurate reporting. The position also supports broader accounting initiatives, month end close activities, and process improvements.

• Knowledge of payroll accounting, payroll liabilities, and internal controls.
• Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting software.
• Sage 300 experience is a plus.
• CPA certification preferred but not required.
