Ideal candidates have 5+ years in accounting focused on GL and payroll, strong Excel skills, and ERP experience (Sage 300 preferred).

Job Details

As a Senior Staff Accountant, you will occupy a pivotal role at the intersection of our Accounting and Payroll departments. This is a position of high visibility where you will act as the primary liaison ensuring that labor costs and financial data flow seamlessly across the organization. You will be the guardian of our internal controls, diving deep into general ledger reconciliations and labor cost allocations to ensure every dollar is accurately accounted for. Working closely with HR and Operations, you will move beyond basic reporting to identify process gaps and implement sophisticated accounting solutions that drive efficiency. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys the challenge of month-end close and the satisfaction of reconciling complex payroll liabilities within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the preparation and reconciliation of payroll-related general ledger accounts, including taxes, benefits, and union contributions.
• Manage month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring all payroll journal entries and accruals are accurately recorded and supported.
• Review labor cost allocations and reconcile payroll expenses to job cost records to ensure precise project reporting and financial accuracy.
• Strengthen and maintain internal controls and financial procedures to mitigate risk and support successful internal and external audits.
• Identify and implement process improvements to reduce manual workflows and enhance the integration between payroll and accounting systems.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with HR and Operations to investigate discrepancies and provide high-level financial analysis for leadership special projects.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with a focus on general ledger reconciliations and financial reporting.
• Proven expertise in payroll accounting, labor cost accounting, and internal controls; construction industry experience is highly preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting ERP systems; Sage 300 experience is a significant plus.
