We are partnering with a Colorado-headquartered, technology company to hire a Senior Accountant focused on financial reporting and technical accounting.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys the research and problem-solving side of accounting. The work is varied and extends well beyond a traditional month-end close role. One week may involve researching a new transaction and drafting an accounting memo; the next may include preparing an owner reporting package, supporting an acquisition, reviewing a valuation or investigating an unusual balance.
The Senior Accountant will work closely with Senior Leadership as a thought partner. The right person will be comfortable taking an unfamiliar accounting question, researching the guidance, developing an initial point of view and clearly documenting the conclusion.
Responsibilities
- Research routine and complex accounting matters involving acquisitions, business combinations, leases, revenue, equity and other material transactions.
- Draft technical accounting memos and position papers with clear, well-supported conclusions.
- Help evaluate new accounting guidance and translate it into practical policies, procedures and financial-statement disclosures.
- Prepare monthly internal financial statements, cash-flow information and quarterly reporting packages for institutional investors and lenders.
- Support annual audited financial statements and related footnote disclosures.
- Prepare balance-sheet and income-statement tie-outs, flux analysis and explanations of unusual or material activity.
- Own reconciliations involving debt, derivatives, goodwill, intangible assets, equity, intercompany activity and other assigned accounts.
- Review debt terms and PIK elections, calculate intercompany interest and support transfer-pricing entries.
- Support acquisitions, goodwill and intangible-asset valuations, stock-based compensation work and other third-party valuation processes.
- Coordinate with auditors, prepare supporting schedules and respond to audit requests.
- Maintain reports and mappings within OneStream and reconcile financial-reporting data to Oracle.
- Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Tax, Legal, Facilities and other teams to understand transactions and gather the information needed to reach an accounting conclusion.
- Balance recurring reporting responsibilities with acquisitions, audit work and time-sensitive requests from leadership.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting accuracy, documentation and efficiency.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Three to five-plus years of relevant accounting experience.
- Public accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP.
- Experience with financial reporting, accounting research and technical memo writing.
- Ability to understand how transactions flow through the balance sheet, income statement and cash-flow statement.
- Strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to develop an initial approach without step-by-step direction.
- Clear and concise written and verbal communication.
- Flexibility to reprioritize when an urgent or unexpected request arises.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with financial systems.
- Ability to travel up to 10% annually.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA.
- Big Four or other national public accounting experience.
- Experience preparing or reviewing financial statements, footnotes and disclosures.
- Exposure to acquisitions, business combinations and complex transactions.
- Experience with lease accounting, stock-based compensation, debt or valuation work.
- SaaS or technology-company experience.
- OneStream or a similar financial-reporting platform.
- Oracle or a comparable ERP.
- Located in Colorado and able to participate in periodic in-person collaboration.
Why Consider It?
This role offers a strong combination of technical accounting, financial reporting and hands-on business exposure. You'll work directly with an experienced leader, contribute to acquisition and valuation projects, interact with auditors and key stakeholders, and continue building your technical capabilities through a steady variety of accounting questions and transactions.
The company offers a flexible work environment with no required weekly office schedule, although the Colorado-based team generally gets together periodically for collaboration, audit work and team events.
