Qualifications

  • Experience supporting annual audits and preparing audit work-papers.

Responsibilities

  • Perform month-end and year-end close activities with journal entries and accruals.
  • Prepare grant-related financial reports and reimbursement requests.
  • Reconcile grant accounts and assist program managers with budgeting.
  • Ensure proper allocation of expenses across multiple funding sources.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and balance sheet items.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.

Job description

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their accounting team on a temporary basis to assist with audit preparation, fiscal year-end close, grant accounting and financial reporting. This position does have long-term potential for the right candidate who comes with a strong background in nonprofit accounting, including grant accounting, month‑end close and audit preparation. This individual will play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy and maintaining compliance with grant requirements. The position is located in Lower Manhattan and is fully onsite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform month‑end and year‑end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
  • Prepare grant‑related financial reports and reimbursement requests.
  • Reconcile grant accounts and support program managers with grant budget tracking.
  • Ensure proper allocation of expenses across multiple funding sources.
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany balances, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and work‑papers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong experience with grant accounting, grant compliance, and restricted funding.
  • Experience supporting annual audits and preparing audit work‑papers.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial reporting functions.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and private grant funding requirements.

Compensation: $45 - $55/hr, depending on experience.
