Job summary

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit in New York City to recruit an Accounting Manager on the finance team. This role offers ownership of key accounting functions, including month-end close, financial reporting, grant accounting, and process improvements, reporting to the Controller.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, 5+ years of nonprofit accounting experience, strong GAAP knowledge (ASC 958), and proficiency with Excel

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years accounting experience, nonprofit accounting preferred.
• GAAP knowledge and ASC 958 familiarity for nonprofit reporting.
• CPA or CPA-track is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Oversee grant accounting, restricted funds, and revenue recognition.
• Support annual audits and Form 990 preparation.
• Ensure GAAP compliance and ASC 958 nonprofit standards.
• Identify process improvements across accounting operations.
• Supervise and mentor a Junior Accountant.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of key accounting functions, including month-end close, financial reporting, grant accounting, audit support, and process improvement initiatives. The position reports directly to the Controller and will play an important role in maintaining the integrity of the organization's financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Oversee grant accounting, restricted funds, and revenue recognition
• Support annual audits and Form 990 preparation
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards (ASC 958)
• Identify and implement process improvements across accounting operations
• Supervise and mentor a Junior Accountant

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience, including nonprofit accounting experience
• Strong background in general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting
• Experience with grants, donor-restricted funds, and audit support
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems
• CPA or CPA-track is a plus
