Job summary

Burnett Specialists is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its growing accounting team in Houston, TX. The role offers a hybrid schedule (in-office Mon-Thu, Friday remote) and a direct-hire path with a compensation range of $98,000 to $108,000 plus an 8% target bonus.

The successful candidate will focus on financial reporting, month-end close, GAAP compliance, and internal controls, with opportunities to lead and develop the team and participate in system improvements.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of public accounting experience.
• Experience supervising or mentoring staff preferred.
• CPA preferred; Big 4 or large regional firm experience is a plus.
• Strong GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting and month-end close knowledge.
• Excellent Excel skills with PivotTables.

Responsibilities

• Assist with external financial statements and monthly management reporting.
• Support and review month-end close, including accruals, adjusting journal entries, allocations and account reconciliations.
• Maintain fixed assets, including additions, disposals and depreciation.
• Support lease accounting and GAAP compliance.
• Assist with revenue accruals, deferrals, inventory and other critical accounting areas.
• Analyze financial results and provide reporting to management.
• Support preparation of monthly reporting packages for leadership and the Board.
• Assist with the annual external audit.
• Help strengthen accounting processes, procedures and internal controls.
• Participate in accounting and financial system implementations and process improvements.
• Provide day-to-day guidance, training and support to accounting team members.
• Take on increasing people-management responsibility as the position and team grow.
• Handle special projects and ad hoc financial reporting as needed.

Senior Accountant Houston, TX | Hybrid Schedule | Direct Hire $98K–$108K + 8% Target Bonus

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join a growing accounting team in Houston. This is an excellent opportunity for someone coming from public accounting who is ready to move into an industry role with strong exposure to financial reporting, month-end close, technical accounting, controls, and team leadership. This position reports to the Controller and offers a clear opportunity to grow into people management and increased leadership responsibility.

Schedule: Monday–Thursday in office, Friday remote.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
• 4+ years of public accounting experience required.
• Must have completed at least one busy season at the Senior Accountant/Senior Associate level.
• Prior experience supervising, mentoring, training or indirectly leading team members strongly preferred.
• CPA preferred.
• Big 4 or large regional public accounting firm experience is a plus.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting and month-end close.
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and PivotTables.
• Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills.
• Microsoft Dynamics GP experience is a plus.
