Job summary

Bed Bath & Beyond, Inc. is seeking a Staff Accountant to manage journal entries for various expense categories and perform monthly reconciliations.

The role supports month-end close, internal controls, and SOX compliance while collaborating with cross-functional teams on new business initiatives. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and hands-on experience with close processes and financial reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required.
• Experience with month-end close and financial reporting preferred.
• Knowledge of internal controls and SOX requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review journal entries related to e-commerce expenses, including utilities, marketing, supplies, payroll, and other expenses.
• Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate and resolve reconciling items.
• Analyze expense results, identify trends and variances, and provide explanations to management.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities within established deadlines.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
• Support accrual calculations and validation of financial data from various source systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate accounting treatment of transactions and new business initiatives.
• Supports and assists with finance related IT projects
• Provides accounting support for adhoc requests and new business activities
• Perform other duties as required and assigned by manager and upper management.
• Follow legal policies as directed

Physical Requirements

This position requires you to sit, stand and perform general office functions. You may also be required to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally. Bending, stooping and reaching are also frequently required.
