Job summary

StevenDouglas is partnering with a well-established, privately held retail company across Texas to grow a Senior Accountant into an Assistant Controller. In this role, you will work directly with the Controller and CFO on high-visibility financial reporting, banking relationships, and audit coordination, with a defined path to leadership as you prove yourself.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• 5+ years of progressive, full-cycle corporate accounting experience.
• Experience with cloud-based ERP systems (Sage Intacct strongly preferred).
• Advanced Excel and strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Own full-cycle general ledger accounting and lead month-end close.
• Review and approve journal entries and staff accountant reconciliations.
• Manage the fixed asset subledger across multiple locations.
• Handle multi-state sales and use tax compliance, including audit support.
• Prepare monthly borrowing base and bank covenant reporting.
• Coordinate audit PBC schedules and support federal/state tax compliance.
• Provide mentorship to staff accountants as a core responsibility.

Are you ready to move from Senior Accountant to Assistant Controller?

StevenDouglas is partnering with a well-established, privately held retail company with a multi-location footprint across Texas to find a Senior Accountant for a defined path to Assistant Controller.

Working directly with the Controller and CFO, you'll take on high-visibility work across financial reporting, banking relationships, and audit coordination with a structured track to grow into a leadership role as you prove yourself.

What You’ll Do

• Own full-cycle general ledger accounting and lead assigned portions of month-end close
• Review and approve journal entries and reconciliations prepared by staff accountants
• Manage the fixed asset subledger acquisitions, disposals, depreciation, and capitalization compliance across multiple locations
• Handle multi-state sales and use tax compliance, including discrepancy research and audit support
• Prepare monthly borrowing base and bank covenant reporting for lender relationships
• Coordinate audit PBC schedules and support federal/state tax compliance
• Provide technical mentorship to staff accountants as a core, expected part of the role

What You Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting
• 5+ years of progressive, full-cycle corporate accounting experience
• Multi-location retail or distribution accounting background
• Experience with cloud-based ERP systems (Sage Intacct experience strongly preferred)
• Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
