University of Silicon Valley seeks a Senior Academic Advisor to support student achievement, retention, and persistence across all programs. This advanced role requires an organized, autonomous professional who can work independently while contributing to a collaborative advising team.

The position delivers comprehensive academic guidance, resolves complex student issues, and supports department-wide improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related field preferred.
• A documented and agreed upon plan to completing a bachelor's degree would suffice.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-depth academic advising to assigned students, including high-touch support for complex cases.
• Independently resolve escalated student issues and guide team members toward resolution strategies.
• Identify barriers to student progression and collaborate with faculty and services to remove them.
• Monitor attendance, registration status, and academic standing to trigger timely interventions.
• Teach university skills/preparatory courses under leadership supervision.
• Mentor new and existing advisors through onboarding and training.
• Lead on university committees or special projects as advisor lead.
• Coordinate advising responsibilities to ensure equitable student support.
• Identify systemic advising challenges and propose scalable improvements.
• Refine advising tools, workflows, and protocols for department effectiveness.
• Coordinate with Registrar, Academic Affairs, Financial Aid and others to resolve issues and align communication.
• Stay informed about institutional policies and trends in student advising.
• Maintain proactive, open communication across departments and with students.
