Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking a Lead Academic Advisor to provide individualized advising to undergraduates in an assigned cohort and support orientation, registration, and student success efforts.

The role emphasizes collaboration with faculty, staff, and campus partners, with responsibilities spanning program planning, training, and budget management to improve student retention and satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and 1 year full-time experience.
• Or Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of full-time experience in education.
• Experience coordinating projects, programs, or events.
• Preferred: Master’s in higher ed, student affairs, social work, counseling, or related field.
• 3+ years advising or student services in a college/university.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality academic advising to undergraduates in an assigned cohort.
• Coordinate orientation and registration activities and support new student seminars.
• Develop advising strategies and build connections with faculty, staff, and student constituents.
• Manage administrative tasks, including programming and budget, within the unit.
• Demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills in a team environment.
