Job summary

Stony Brook University invites applications for a CEAS Academic Advisor in the CEAS Dean's Office - Undergraduate Student Office. The advisor will provide individual academic guidance, support orientation, and help students plan courses and majors to promote timely graduation.

The role includes teaching the Introduction to Stony Brook seminar, coordinating events, and collaborating with faculty and staff to support student success and retention while contributing to program orientation and

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) or a Bachelor’s with one year of relevant college/university experience.
  • Experience in a college/university setting in student services such as advising, counseling, teaching, and/or student programming/activities.
  • Academic advising experience in a college/university setting.
  • Experience teaching new student seminars or student-development related courses.
  • Experience conducting presentations including facilitating discussions.
  • Experience coordinating programs and/or events and interacting with a diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality academic advising in individual and group settings on an ongoing basis, including courses, majors, degree requirements, and policies.
  • Teach the Introduction to Stony Brook seminar.
  • Plan and execute events and activities to enhance student engagement and retention.
  • Coordinate orientation and registration with the Registrar and New Student Programs offices.
  • Develop advising strategies for academic success for all CEAS students.
  • Build connections with faculty, staff, and student constituents and participate in relevant training.
