St. John’s University is seeking an Academic Advisor reporting to the Associate Director of Academic Advising.

This role advises undergraduate students on academic requirements, assists with course selection and registration, and connects students with campus resources to maximize retention. The Academic Advisor will contribute to student success by building relationships, interpreting policies, and supporting students across multiple colleges and programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• 1–3 years of experience in academic advising, student affairs, higher education, counseling, or related field.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to interpret and apply academic policies, degree requirements, and institutional guidelines.
• Proficiency with student information systems and advising software.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic advising for undergraduate students.
• Assist with course selection, registration, and academic planning.
• Refer students to university resources and ensure timely information delivery.
• Document advising outcomes and maintain accurate student records.
• Support retention efforts and build positive relationships with students and staff.
