Job summary

The Johnston County Communications Department is hiring a full-time 911 Telecommunicator (Dispatcher). You will answer 911 and non-emergency lines, dispatch law enforcement, fire and EMS, and maintain coordination with multiple agencies.

Training and evaluation occur under supervision with experience preferred. Preferred candidates hold DCI/EMD/EPD certifications and have prior 911 dispatch experience; starting pay is competitive with overtime and annual holidays.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or equivalent; dispatch/reception experience preferred.
• Candidates must possess or obtain emergency medical, emergency fire and emergency police dispatch certifications.
• Prior 911 dispatch experience and certifications highly preferred.
• Ability to multitask, remain calm under stress, and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Answer 911 emergency and administrative lines and dispatch law enforcement, fire and EMS by radio.
• Receive routine and emergency calls and provide directions and information to the public.
• Operate equipment, maintain contact with units, and generate reports.
• Maintain logs in a computer system and coordinate with divisions as needed.
• Provide standing order advice and support to field personnel when required.
