SEND Teaching Assistants – Berkeley, Gloucestershire

Flexible SEND School Opportunities!

Location: Berkeley and surrounding Gloucestershire areas
Pay: £100–£115 per day PAYE (depending on experience)

About the role

Connex Education are seeking compassionate, patient and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistants to work within specialist schools and alternative provisions in Berkeley and the surrounding Gloucestershire area.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people who require additional support with their learning, communication, emotional wellbeing and development. You will help create a positive and inclusive learning environment where pupils feel safe, supported and encouraged to reach their potential.

The pupils you support may have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language needs, sensory processing difficulties, learning disabilities and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Some pupils may require additional support with communication, emotional regulation, personal development or accessing classroom activities.

Working alongside teachers, other Teaching Assistants and wider support teams, you will provide tailored support to help pupils engage with learning, develop independence and build confidence. Previous experience in a specialist school or SEND setting is desirable, but a positive attitude, resilience and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs are essential.

We have a variety of flexible supply, short-term and long-term opportunities, with options to suit different availability and experience levels.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with additional learning needs.

  • Support pupils to access classroom activities and engage positively with their learning.

  • Help implement individual learning targets and strategies set by the class teacher.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, emotional wellbeing and independence.

  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction and emotional regulation where required.

  • Encourage positive behaviour through consistent, patient and nurturing approaches.

  • Adapt your support to meet pupils’ individual learning, communication and sensory needs.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to support pupil progress.

  • Help maintain a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment.

  • Follow safeguarding procedures and school policies at all times.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable, particularly within a SEND, school, care or support setting.

  • A genuine interest in supporting pupils with additional needs and helping them achieve their potential.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • A patient, calm and nurturing approach.

  • Confidence supporting pupils with a range of learning, communication, sensory or behavioural needs.

  • A positive, proactive and flexible attitude.

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.

  • A willingness to undertake relevant training and continuous professional development (CPD).

  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one through Connex Education.

Benefits of joining Connex Education

  • Competitive daily pay rates.

  • Weekly PAYE pay – no umbrella companies.

  • Flexible supply, short-term and long-term opportunities.

  • Free access to our SEND Toolkit and professional development resources.

  • Career progression opportunities through our professional development pathways.

  • Wellbeing support, training and refresher courses.

  • A dedicated specialist consultant to support your career journey.

  • Opportunities to gain valuable experience across specialist educational settings.
