JOB DESCRIPTION - DALLAS TRAILER REPAIR CO.

DIESEL TECHNICIAN

Job Summary

This position is responsible for routine maintenance, diagnostics and repair on all trucks/vehicles and related equipment. To succeed in this role, one should have a solid knowledge of basic mechanic’s tools, service, and diagnostic equipment, as well as strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and customer service skills, and be able to work independently or as a team member.

Mechanic Responsibilities

  1. Conduct diagnostics and repairs on starting & charging systems, cooling, and re-charge, electrical and common fault codes.
  2. Inspect, analyze, and diagnose trucks/vehicles and related equipment for mechanical issues, faulty and replacement parts.
  3. Perform leak detection and repairs, compressor replacements, soldering refrigerant lines, evaporator/condenser replacements and front & rear main engine seal replacements in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standard.
  4. Perform routine maintenance and Federal inspections on trailers, trucks/vehicles, and related equipment.
  5. Problem solve and document an action plan for all repairs and follow checklists and protocols while conducting repairs.
  6. Ensure a safe, organized, and tidy workspace, including regularly cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment.
  7. Follow all health and safety rules and guidelines, as well as common sense safety practices.
  8. Ability to work independently, as well as support coworkers, able to work as part of team and work well with co-workers.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge-Based Requirements

  1. Knowledge of diesel vehicle mechanical systems (e.g., transmission, exhaust, electrical)
  2. Understanding of common diagnostic equipment with aptitude in use of hand and/or power tools, and precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers)
  3. ASE certifications highly desired but not required.
  4. 1-2 years relevant experience (Denoted below*).
  5. Able to pass pre-employment knowledge/skill test to determine probability of job success and mechanical classification.
  6. Proven mechanical acuity and basic math skills.
  7. Must be able to read and write in English, as required for documentation of diagnosis and solutions.
  8. Must have own tools plus Safety Glasses, Steel-toed shoes, and Hearing Protection.
  9. Able to pass 10-year background check.
  10. Able to pass drug test/medical physical exam.

Physical Demands/Abilities performed throughout the duration of the work shift.

  1. Heavy Work- Exerting up to 100lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 50lbs of force frequently or up to 20lbs of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including other job related items.
  2. Walking/Standing for sustained periods of time.
  3. Climbing – Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using entire body.
  4. Stooping/Crouching – Bending body downward and forward by bending at the waist, legs, and spine.
  5. Balancing – Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling.
  6. Kneeling/Crawling – Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s) or moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
  7. Whole Hand/Fingers – Picking, pinching, typing with fingers and grasping with the fingers and palm.
  8. Repetitive Motion – Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  9. Talking – Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to others accurately and quickly when necessary.
  10. Hearing – Receiving detailed information through oral communication at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
  11. Vision – Close visual acuity to perform activities such as reading, using measurement devices, viewing electronic devices, assembling, inspecting small parts and/or operating machines and power tools, operate a motor vehicle and determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work performed.

Work Environment: Work is performed in a shop; both indoors and outdoors. Activities occur inside and outside and are subject to work environments that are not climate controlled, weather, and hot/cold temperature changes, dirt, dust, soot and possibly mold, loud noise, and ladders to use for high heights. Potential hazards such as moving vehicles, proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, high places, high heat, and exposure to chemicals, atmospheric conditions (e.g. fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases), or poor ventilation, or a workspace may be exposed to smoke residue, mold and mildew, contaminated water, or other unsanitary conditions, as well as being in closed quarters/confined spaces (e.g. crawl spaces, small, enclosed rooms, attics, etc.)

TRAILER TECHNICIAN

Job Summary

Salary: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour [Depending on experience]
