Diesel Technician
Job Summary
This position is responsible for routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repair on trucks/vehicles and related equipment. Candidates should have a solid understanding of basic mechanic’s tools, service, and diagnostic equipment, with strong attention to detail, communication, and customer service skills. Ability to work independently or as part of a team is essential.
Mechanic Responsibilities
- Conduct diagnostics and repairs on starting & charging systems, cooling, electrical, and fault codes.
- Inspect, analyze, and diagnose trucks/vehicles and related equipment for mechanical issues and faulty parts.
- Perform leak detection, compressor replacements, soldering refrigerant lines, and engine seal replacements per manufacturer specs.
- Perform routine maintenance and Federal inspections on trailers, trucks, and related equipment.
- Document repair actions, follow checklists, and ensure safety and cleanliness of workspace.
- Support safety guidelines and work effectively both independently and as a team member.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge-Based Requirements
- Knowledge of diesel vehicle systems (transmission, exhaust, electrical).
- Familiarity with diagnostic and measurement tools.
- ASE certifications are preferred but not required.
- 1-2 years relevant experience; Class A Mechanic with 5+ yrs, Class B with 3-5 yrs, Class C with 1-3 yrs.
- Ability to pass skills tests and background checks.
- Proven mechanical skills and basic math ability.
- Must be able to read/write in English and have own tools, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Heavy lifting up to 100 lbs, standing/walking for long periods, climbing, bending, balancing, kneeling, and repetitive motions.
- Work outdoors and indoors, exposed to weather, noise, chemicals, and other hazards.
Tools Required by Classification
- Laborer: basic hand tools.
- Tech 1-3: progressively more advanced tools and equipment as specified.
- Body Tech 1-2: welding gear, clamps, and specialized tools.
