Job summary

Empowering People's Independence (EPI) in Syracuse, NY, is seeking a part-time caregiver to assist a 20-year-old non-verbal, visually impaired individual with daily living and life skills. The role offers after-school hours (Mon-Fri, 2pm-7pm) with pay ranging from $18 to $20 per hour. Requires NYS driver’s license and ability to lift 50 lbs.

High school diploma or equivalent is required; one year in human services preferred. Training within 90 days and ongoing certifications are mandatory.

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Applicants cannot have the same address as person supported.

Responsibilities

• Provide supervision, training, and assistance in activities of daily living for the client.
• Assist with self-care, social, recreation, community, and domestic skills for the client.
• Mentor during after school hours; client enjoys outdoor activities, finger painting, water play and music.

Job Purpose:

• Assist individuals with brain injury, intellectual disabilities, and other neurological disabilities in achieving a challenging, stimulating, dignified life by serving as an advocate and liaison for and on behalf of individuals’ rights and benefits.

Essential Functions:

• Provide supervision, training, and assistance in accomplishing activities of daily living, which includes, but is not limited to, self-care skills, social skills, recreation skills, community skills, and domestic skills for a 20 year old male who is non verbal, and visually impaired. He requires extensive assistance with daily living skills and is looking for a mentor to work with him during after school hours. He also enjoys being outdoors in good weather, enjoys finger painting, water play and music.

Location: Syracuse, NY

Schedule:

• Part Time (20-24.9)
• Monday-Friday (2pm-7pm)

Pay Rate:

$18/hr-$20/hr

Education and Experience:

• High school graduate or equivalent; one-year experience in the human service field preferred.
