Job summary

Virginia Department of Corrections seeks a Captain: Greensville Correctional Center to manage security operations and staff as shift commander. The role oversees daily activities, ensures safety, and maintains secure, orderly operations within the facility.

The incumbent will lead, develop and coach staff, set work schedules, perform performance management, and coordinate inspections to ensure compliance with policies and procedures governing institutional operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and valid Operator’s License.
• DCJS Certification and working knowledge of departmental policies.
• Progressive security experience within the Virginia Department of Corrections; supervisory experience.
• Experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work for others including timekeeping and duty rosters.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily activities of security supervisors and support staff as shift commander.
• Coordinate and review work of others to ensure a safe, secure environment.
• Lead, develop, and counsel staff; manage schedules and performance processes.
