Job summary

St. John’s University is seeking a Security Application Specialist to own Tier 2/3 operations for the university’s security technology platforms.

Responsibilities include configuration, reliability monitoring, break-fix support, and coordinating complex changes, with after-hours on-call coverage and adherence to standards. The role requires experience with access control and IP video systems, strong documentation habits, and the ability to work across IT, Facilities, and vendors to maintain

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Progressive experience administering security technology platforms, service tickets, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of access control and IP video systems, with device programming concepts.
• Vendor/platform certifications (or ability to obtain) in access control and video platforms.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, VLANs, connectivity).
• Experience with Windows administration basics and vendor client tools; ability to document and follow change controls.
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and after-hours work for maintenance or incidents.

Responsibilities

• Platform Configuration and Administration: configure security platforms (access control, video, alarms, intercom/emergency phones) using standards; manage access levels, schedules, and reporting parameters.
• Reliability, Health Monitoring, and Maintenance: perform health checks, device status monitoring, patching, upgrades, and document release notes.
• Incident Response and Break-Fix (Tier 2/3): respond to incidents, diagnose root causes, coordinate escalations, and provide after-hours coverage.
• Change Control and Complex Access Changes: execute complex access changes with approvals and document back-out plans.
• Video and Data Exports (Execution): perform video exports and ensure chain-of-custody; support retention and release processes.
• Documentation, SOPs, and Cross-Coverage: develop SOPs and troubleshooting guides; provide coverage for related offices and cross-training.
