Job Summary
Performs a variety of duties to provide assistance and information to all patients, visitors, and staff. Enforce hospital policies and procedures to provide a safe, secure environment, in support of the hospital Security Program.
Minimum Qualifications (Prior to May 1, 2022)
- Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
- Valid Driver's License – must be maintained during employment.
- Certification in HeartSaver First Aid within 60 days of hire.
- Pass WV DHHR Protected Services Record Check and WV CARES fingerprint-based criminal background check.
- Experience: One (1) year in Security field.
Minimum Qualifications (Hired on or after May 1, 2022)
- Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
- High School diploma or equivalent AND one (1) year of experience in Security field, OR
- Associate's degree in criminal justice, criminology, forensics, law, or related field.
- Valid Driver's License – must be maintained during employment.
- Certification in HeartSaver First Aid within 60 days of hire.
- Pass WV DHHR Protected Services Record Check and WV CARES fingerprint-based criminal background check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience: One (1) year in Security field.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:
- Maintain visibility at assigned locations to provide information and directions to patients, visitors, and staff, distributing accurate information consistently.
- Respond courteously to requests for information/assistance.
- Provide physical assistance, wheelchair assistance, transport, escort services, and room access.
- Monitor traffic flow in parking areas, assist disabled vehicles, issue permits, and enforce parking violations.
- Protect people and property by preventing accidents, theft, and vandalism, following policies and supervision.
- Conduct routine building rounds, unlock doors, and patrol exterior areas.
- Recommend security improvements to management.
- Report suspicious activities, incidents, and persons.
- Assist during drills, animal control, valuables transportation, and lost/found situations.
- Document activities and incidents accurately and legibly.
- Respond to emergencies such as assaults, fires, vandalism, threats, theft, and disasters.
- Perform patient restraint as directed and capable of physical intervention.
- Operate hospital vehicles safely, perform vehicle inspections.
- Other duties include incident reporting, crowd control, policy enforcement, alarm responses, and more.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for entire shifts.
- Lift, push, or pull up to 80 pounds.
- Tolerate adverse environmental conditions.
- Evaluation by Occupational Medicine required upon hire.

- Exposure to outside weather conditions.
