Allied Universal is seeking a Security Officer (Part Time Unarmed Patrol Deterrence) in Norfolk, VA. The role involves patrolling campus areas, maintaining a visible presence, and delivering excellent customer service to students, staff, and visitors.

You will respond to security concerns, follow campus procedures, and help maintain a welcoming, safe campus environment. Training and shift flexibility are offered as part of our Engage program.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles (21+ for armed).
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Background check in accordance with laws; drug screen required.
• Licensing requirements may be required prior to employment; driver’s license for driving roles.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service to students, faculty, staff, visitors, and campus partners while following security procedures and campus policies.
• Conduct regular and random patrols of campus buildings, grounds, parking areas, and perimeter locations to deter incidents and identify hazards.
• Respond calmly and professionally to incidents, alarms, and emergencies per campus protocols.
• Monitor access points and report suspicious activity, maintenance concerns, and policy violations to relevant personnel.
• Document patrols, incidents, and observations accurately in reports/logs.

What You'll Do:

• Provide customer service to students, faculty, staff, visitors, and/or campus partners while carrying out security-related procedures, site-specific policies, and appropriate emergency response activities.
• Conduct regular and random patrols of campus buildings, grounds, parking areas, and perimeter locations to help identify unusual activity, hazards, and/or access concerns.
• Respond to incidents, alarms, and critical situations in a calm, professional, problem-solving manner, following established campus protocols.
• Monitor access points and report suspicious activity, maintenance concerns, and policy violations to appropriate personnel.
• Document patrol activities, incidents, and observations accurately in required reports and logs.

Minimum Requirements:

• Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
• Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
• As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
• Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
• A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.
