The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. The centers provide campus-based direct services and supports at 13 centers located throughout the state.

The Security Officer III is responsible for maintaining a secure environment at the Denton State Supported Living Center by observing, taking action, and reporting incidents or security violations involving residents. The role includes initiating emergency responses as appropriate, monitoring alarms and surveillance cameras, patrolling buildings and grounds, checking badges or identification at the facility gate, and handling after-hours emergency calls to ensure safety for residents, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities also include coordinating emergency responses, notifying management and law enforcement when necessary, performing monthly fire extinguisher inspections, identifying unfamiliar persons on campus, ensuring proper lighting, and potentially training other security officers. The position involves working with individuals who may exhibit aggressive or self-injurious behaviors, under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and judgment.
Essential Job Functions :
Attends work regularly and may need to work specific, rotating, extended shifts, or overtime. Monitors surveillance cameras for unauthorized persons, fires, and incidents, reporting emergencies immediately. Reports abuse, neglect, or exploitation allegations during surveillance. Conducts routine patrols and responds to fire alarms and emergencies, assisting with fire drills and safety checks. Coordinates emergency responses and assists in apprehending suspects when feasible. Prepares documentation related to emergencies or violations, evaluates security regulations, and trains new officers. Participates in mandatory training and supports agency disaster response or recovery efforts, which may involve shift or location changes.
Knowledge Skills Abilities :
Knowledge of building security, surveillance equipment, and alarm systems. Skilled in oral and written communication, including incident reports. Capable of communicating with potentially aggressive individuals, patrolling grounds, and taking appropriate actions. Physically able to walk extensively, run occasionally, and assist in restraining individuals during emergencies. Able to drive a state vehicle, prepare concise reports, and train others. Remains calm and reacts quickly in emergencies, with skills in defusing difficult situations and assessing responses. Knowledge of traffic and parking regulations.
