Job summary

The Jewish Museum in New York is seeking attentive Security Guards to protect the Museum premises, assets, visitors, and staff while serving as ambassadors to guests. This role helps maintain a safe environment on Museum Mile in the Warburg mansion.

Schedule is Part-time, 5 days per week (Thursday through Monday), less than 40 hours, with occasional overtime. Local 241 union affiliation; salary listed at $24.46 per hour.

Qualifications

• H.S. diploma or GED required.
• Valid NYS Department of State Security Registration.
• Ability to obtain NY Fire Department Fire Guard Certificate.
• Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Customer service experience; experience with CCTV and security alarm systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Report in full uniform to the daily security briefing, ready to take an assigned post.
• Patrol the assigned post, noting and reporting unusual situations related to security and fire safety, and conduct a daily safety and security survey.
• Interact with Museum visitors and staff in a courteous and helpful manner.
• Operate and monitor computer-based CCTV and security alarm systems, and fill in as Control Room Operator when necessary.
• Respond to medical and emergency situations and take appropriate action while maintaining a composed demeanor.
• May assist with snow and ice removal from Museum sidewalks and property, and perform custodial duties when needed.

The Jewish Museum is an art museum committed to illuminating the complexity and vibrancy of Jewish culture for a global audience. Located on New York City's Museum Mile in the landmarked Warburg mansion, the Museum maintains a unique collection of nearly 30,000 works of art, ceremonial objects, and media reflecting the global Jewish experience. The Museum's Security Guards play a vital role in maintaining the security and safety of the Museum premises, assets, visitors, and staff, while also serving as ambassadors with the Museum's visitors and guests. Reports to the Associate Director, Security.

Schedule: Part-time, 5 days per week, Thursday through Monday; less than 40 hours, with occasional mandatory overtime. Non-exempt; Local 241 union affiliation.

Requirements

• Valid Unique Security Registration Number with the N.Y.S. Department of State, Division of Licensing Services
• Ability to obtain a New York City Fire Department Fire Guard Certificate of Fitness
• Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime
• Must be able to stand for extended periods indoors and outdoors and lift and carry 50 lbs
• Customer service experience; experience with computer-based CCTV and security alarm systems a plus

Salary: $24.46/hour.
