About This Position

The Security Coordinator supports the Security Manager by overseeing daily security operations, managing the Security Operations Center, and ensuring compliance with established procedures to protect employees, guests, and assets. The role coordinates emergency responses, evaluates internal and contracted security services, provides oversight for contract security staff, conducts incident follow-ups, prepares reports, and serves as a liaison for internal departments. This position includes supervisory responsibilities and requires strong knowledge of security systems, applicable laws, organizational policies, and effective communication and organizational skills.


Purpose

Under the general direction of the Security Manager, plan, manage, and coordinate the security related activities associated with the Security Office. Oversee the security programs and activities to safeguard department assets, employees and guests.


Duties, Functions and Responsibilities


  • Coordinates security operations ensuring that security procedures are implemented and follows per the organizations Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Oversee the operations of the Security Operation Center and coordinate all emergency/crisis management operations providing a timely response to incidents as needed.

  • Provides operation support and management services for the Security Officer Contract to include contract compliance and oversight of personnel selection, training, and scheduling.

  • Evaluates internal and contracted security operations to maximize service effectiveness.

  • Monitors and trains staff in job tasks and responsibilities to ensure effective performance.

  • Respond to emergency situations, conduct follow-up investigations and file reports on security related incidents.

  • Reviews staff's documentation and communicate information to Division Manager as needed.

  • Performs as a liaison for internal customers to provide assessments and program implementation for site security services to meet business needs.

  • Develops activity reports and logs, tracking unit statistics and trends.

  • Supervisor and/or Leadership Exercised: May be responsible for the full range of supervisory activities, including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

  • Knowledge of electronic security systems, CCTV, and mechanical doors lock systems.

  • Knowledge of supervisory and managerial techniques and principles.

  • Knowledge of fiscal planning and budget preparation.

  • Knowledge of Federal, State, Local laws, and ordinances.

  • Knowledge of city practice, policy, and procedure.

  • Skill in handling conflict and uncertain situations.

  • Skill in collecting, analyzing, and interpreting applicable data.

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.

  • Skill in using computers and related software applications.

  • Skill in planning and organizing.

  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions/changes in priorities.

  • Ability to quickly recognize and analyze irregular events.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with personnel, city, county, and state personnel, and the public.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus five (5) years experience providing security related services in a Security Operations Center environment, two (2) of which were in a lead capacity.


Licenses and Certifications Required

Valid Texas Class C Drivers License.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Demonstrated experience operation, troubleshooting, and repairing various Security Operating Systems.

  • Experience developing Scope of Work (SOW) for commercial security vendors to obtain security, surveillance, CCTV, and Access Control.

  • Experience reviewing blueprints, equipment specifications, schematic drawings, and technical instructions regarding security systems and equipment.

  • Demonstrated experience in operating various Security Access and CCTV Systems and the ability to educated and train customers on system operations and functionality.


Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm. Hours will vary depending on work demands and business needs. This position is required to work outside of scheduled hours including extended shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet security and business needs.


Pay Range

$60,030.00 - $74,140.00

Driving Requirement (if applicable)

This position requires a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one by your hire date. External New Hires must meet the City of Austin's Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) requisite. To be considered for a driving position, applicants cannot have more than three moving violations or a total of six Driver Record Evaluation points within a period of thirty-six (36) months.


Travel

If the position requires travel, you must meet Driver Safety Program standards, Otherwise, you are responsible for transportation to and from multiple job sites as needed.


Essential/Critical Employee Designation

Some positions are designated as Critical or Essential. Employees in these roles are required to report to work during emergencies or when operations are modified. This may include working from a designated site or an alternative work location.


Work Conditions

Work hours may vary based on operational needs and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, or on-call assignments. Must have the ability to read, write and speak English fluently. A skills assessment may be required as part of the hiring process.


Veteran Preference

Veteran candidates must provide a copy of their DD-214 at the interview to receive the veteran’s preference.


Background Check

A criminal background check may be required, depending on the responsibilities of the position.
