Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Operator’s License.
• DCJS Certification.
• Working knowledge of departmental policies, institutional policies, operating practices, procedures, and inmate programs.
• Progressive security working experience within the Virginia Department of Corrections.
• Experience in the supervision of corrections staff.
• Experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work for others to include timekeeping and duty roster management.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of practices and procedures governing security and/or administration.
• Ability to receive, understand, follow, and give oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge in the use of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.

Responsibilities

• Direct daily activities of security supervisors and staff as shift commander.
• Coordinate work on shift to ensure a safe, secure, and productive environment.
• Lead, develop, and counsel staff; manage schedules and performance.
• Conduct ongoing inspections for compliance with security post audit, policies and procedures.
• Interact with management, staff, visitors, inmates and the public to maintain orderly operations.
